This Fulham Pottery “Coralie” mantle vase was designed by Gerard De Witt in the 1940s.
Coralie was very much inspired by natural forms such as coral with this vase consisting of a fluted outer and inner shells. The graduated internal shell was further subdivided thus creating an internal flower brick to facilitate placing flowers. Hotels particularly liked these vases as they could create dramatic arrangements with ease. Buckingham Palace used them for Royal garden parties!
These “Coralie” vases are now hugely sought after and they are perfect for displaying masses of garden flowers and foliage as per Constance Spry's naturalistic style.
This striking neutral matte/satin glazed vase is in almost pristine condition. With its pedestal base and fluted body it certainly makes a statement either empty or filled.
It is in exceptional condition for its age with only slight crazing which in our opinion only adds to its appeal.
This is an incredibly beautiful and special piece and would look beautiful upon a mantle piece, shelf or console. Underside impressed stamp 'DE WITT DESIGN/FULHAM POTTERY/MADE IN ENGLAND', and Registration and Patent numbers.
